Four concerts over two days in downtown Lexington during Halloween weekend are expected to challenge parking and traffic. Country star Garth Brooks will play two shows at Rupp Arena on Friday, October 31st and two more on Saturday, November first.

Lexington’s downtown has come a long, long way in recent years; restaurants, music venues, the farmers market and Thursday night live. But, we still hear people say they avoid downtown, and it usually has to do with uncertainty about parking. That’s the focus of Tom Martin’s conversation with Robert Wagoner, a retired commercial real estate and development professional whose projects include the Tates Creek, Palomar and Lexington Green shopping centers.

Lexington city officials are considering more than a 15 hundred percent increase in fines for illegally parking in handicapped spots.  Under the proposal passed by the Budget Committee Tuesday, the fine goes from 15 dollars to 250 dollars.  Committee members had considered a range of fines, but instead, adopted an amendment by Vice Mayor Linda Gorton. “I think this needs to be a stiff enough fine that people won’t do it ever,” said Gorton.
