A towering landmark in the city of Frankfort is expected to come tumbling down Sunday afternoon.  A crowd of onlookers is likely for the 1:30 demolition of the Capital Plaza Tower.  

Demolition Means Street Closures In Frankfort

As the long-awaited demolition of Capitol Plaza Complex begins, motorists will be facing some detours in Frankfort.  The changes begin Thursday.

During the first phase of demolition, Clinton Street will be closed between Wilkinson Boulevard and St. Clair Street. It will remained closed for five weeks. In addition to rerouting street traffic, several parking options will also be eliminated temporarily. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working with the contractor to help drivers navigate the necessary street closures and detours.

EKU Housing Plan Calls for Demolition and New Construction

Eastern Kentucky University is moving forward with plans to upgrade student housing on the Richmond campus.  The EKU Board of Regents received an update on the project Monday. Plans call for tearing down three dorms, as well as a portion of family housing, and constructing new facilities.
