The chair of the biology department at Berea College sees significant academic and infrastructure benefits to a future new home for sciences.  The final beam of the new building will be put in place at a ceremony scheduled this afternoon on the southern Madison County campus.

Children attending a southeastern Kentucky elementary school are participating in a whole new library experience. The changes have been made possible through a joint project by Eastern Kentucky University and Berea
College. 

  

President Trump’s first effort at a federal budget calls for elimination of funding for the Appalachian Regional Commission.  The director of the Appalachian Center at Berea College worries, if enacted, the president’s spending plan would have negative impacts on southeastern Kentucky.  

   

The "skinny budgets" offered by first-term presidents often include wish lists of spending requests and basic economic projections.  The Trump proposal includes funding cuts to a number of agencies including the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Berea College Partners for Education

Berea College is being awarded $6 million to expand a federal program aimed at helping students in high poverty areas go to college.  The Promise Neighborhood funds will be used in Knox County.

A Berea College administrator has offered testimony about the cost of college education to a congressional committee in Washington.  Much of the questioning Tuesday focused on student debt.

Berea College is known nationally for its "no student paid" tuition with a "student work required" philosophy.

Washington Monthly magazine ranks Berea College first in the south for ‘Best Bang for the Buck.’  The school also places third nationally among liberal arts schools.

The college’s president says the southern Madison County school could teach other institutions a thing or two about affordability.

A diverse group of people marched and rallied Wednesday night in downtown Lexington in recognition of the National Day of Action Against Police Brutality.

Participants gathered first near Lexington's William Wells Brown Elementary School.  Among them, Molly Van Zant, who wore a front and back corrugated sign of names from across the country.  "I am wearing a list of some of people who have been killed by law enforcement recently, men and women," said Van Zant.
