Yarmuth Defends Warren During Hearing
Facing hostile questions from Republican lawmakers, White House consumer adviser Elizabeth Warren was grilled during a subcommittee meeting that got nasty when the panel’s chairman accused her of lying about the terms of her appearance.
During a hearing entitled “Who’s Watching the Watchmen”, U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., declared the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau being formed by the Obama administration a “super class of administrative elites,” and asked Warren if she’d accept leading the new agency.
“Congressman, we had an agreement,” she told Congressman McHenry.
“You had no agreement, you are making this up, Ms. Warren,” McHenry said.
Apologizing for McHenry’s “rude” behavior, U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., defended Warren, saying she is an effective spokesperson who is feared by many who are against consumers protections (h/t B&P).
