He calls it surreal, and a high honor. Long-time Lexington Urban League President P.G. Peeples, reacting to news that he has been elected Chair of the Board of Regents for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. Peeples says he's looking forward to the opportunity.
"I'm stepping into a seat where a system that is one of the best in the country, so my main goal is to meet the board, and continue to be supportive of Dr. McCall, his excellent staff, excellent system, and keep us moving forward."
Peeples says there will be several areas of focus for his two year term.
"To increase minority participation at all levels, faculty, staff, presidents, economic opportunities through procurement, so I do have that emphasis and I think that everybody would expect that from me, given my background with the Urban League."
Over his forty-two year career with the league, Peeples has also served on the boards of the Kentucky Housing Corporation, Blue Grass Airport, and the Fayette Equity Council.
Bluegrass Community and Technical College, which is part of KCTCS, recently broke ground on a new campus that will be located on the old Eastern State Mental Hospital property; just a couple of blocks from the Urban League office.
