Urban Bourbon Trail may add Distillery

An unused building on Main Street will soon be converted to a small distillery by a New York-based whiskey brand. Local officials hope it will attract additional tourism to the urban bourbon trail in Louisville. The New York-based Michter’s Distillery has been in existence for nearly three centuries and has decided to produce single barrel and small batch rye and bourbon whiskey in Louisville.

The brand dates back nearly three centuries and Michter’s claims to be the first commercial whiskey distillery in the United States.  Governor Steve Beshear welcomed the addition of another historic distiller to the area.

“It is an investment of almost 7.8 million dollars” Beshear says “and it will create ten new jobs for folds right here in Louisville and Jefferson County.”

Company President Joe Magliocco says he’s excited to bring his brand to a historical bourbon haven.

“Louisville is truly one of our country’s greatest places, it is so culturally rich,” he says “it has such friendly people and it’s just a really beautiful city and we’re really thrilled to be doing this project here.”

Along with the new jobs created, Magliocco says the company will also use local contractors for the renovation and construction of the distillery building.
