UK Coach Pokes Fun At Louisville During Tipoff Lunch

Oct 12, 2011

Some of Kentucky Coach John Calipari's remarks at the annual UK Tipoff Luncheon in Louisville will likely ruffle a few Cardinal feathers. Coach Cal told the 800 or so attendees at a downtown hotel there's no question where the basketball capital of the state is located.

"This is the commonwealth's team. Come on, everybody want to get mad about it? It's the commonwealth's team."

Calipari also took the opportunity to salute new UK President Eli Capilouto's infrastructure priorities for the campus.

"Do we have any state legislators here? You need to invest in that university and there needs to be cranes all over that campus. Why? Your children, your grandchildren. That's what that university is for. The majority of our students, where are they from? Kentucky. When they graduate where do most of them come? Louisville. You know that's true."

The coach and his team meet with the local media tomorrow, prior to Friday night's Big Blue Madness Festivities at sold-out Rupp Arena.
