The 2010 Kentucky State Police Trooper of the Year is a veteran of Post 1 in Mayfield, in far western Kentucky. Senior Trooper Thomas Williams was honored along with a host of other state troopers in an awards ceremony in Frankfort.
Trooper Williams, of Smithland, is a busy man. Patrolling I-24 and the Western Kentucky Parkway, he issued more than 2,000 citations last year, including 777 for speeding.
He investigated 45 criminal cases and made almost 280 arrests. He’s also the 2010 Kentucky State Police Trooper of the Year.
“Very humbling," Williams told Kentucky Public Radio. "It’s an honor. It’s an honor to even be able to do this.”
KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer says Williams is well-deserving of the recognition.
“This individual is not only high-activity, but he’s entrenched in the community – all the values that we hold very sacred," said Brewer. "And today’s a really great day for us. It gives an opportunity to really present awards to the best of the best.”
KSP veteran Bryan Whittaker of Beaver Dam is the 2010 Detective of the Year. Officer Emily Horton of Warsaw is Officer of the Year for the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.
Awards for valor, bravery, life-saving, safe driving and meritorious service were also handed out.
