Skiing Weather Moves Into West Virginia
Snow is arriving in West Virginia just in time for the opening of the state's ski season. Snowshoe Mountain is opening its 40th season Wednesday with at least three lifts and about 10 trails in operation. Winterplace Ski Resort announced Wednesday that it's opening on Friday, two weeks earlier than planned, because of natural snow and good snowmaking conditions.
Following Friday's opening, Winterplace's trails will be closed Monday through Thursday for maintenance. The trails will reopen Dec. 6 for the remainder of the ski season. The West Virginia Ski Areas Association says Canaan Valley, Timberline and Oglebay will open in early December. Association spokesman Joe Stevens says in a news release that the weather has been perfect for snowmaking. The state's ski and snowboard season typically runs from Thanksgiving through early April.
