Ruth Ann Palumbo Keeps House Seat in Lexington

The longest-serving woman in the Kentucky legislature was able to hold off a strong and well-financed Republican challenger Tuesday in Lexington. Democratic state Rep. Ruth Ann Palumbo, who represents the 76th House District, bested Richard Marrs, an owner of an advertising firm, for the second time in two years. Marrs lost to Palumbo in 2010 by about 20 percentage points, but Marrs ran a much closer race this year by painting Palumbo as a tax-and-spend liberal in campaign advertisements and describing himself as a fiscal conservative.
