Just as Churchill Downs gears up for Derby Week, Keeneland wrapped up its spring meet. Both attendance at the Lexington track and the amount of cash wagered increased. Despite traffic complicated by major road repairs on US 60, overall attendance at Keeneland was up over three percent this spring, with over 278-thousand people enjoying a day at the races.
On each Saturday of the meet, over 30-thousand spectators crowded into the Lexington track. Also up was the amount of money wagered on Keeneland races by over 18-percent…at over 158-million dollars. As for the races, a record was set owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey. During this meet, horses owned by the Ramseys won 25 races….more than double the old record for wins in a single meet. Records for most wins by a single jockey and a single trainer were also broken.
