U.S. Sen. Rand Paul speaks to an audience in the auditorium at Western Kentucky University's Grise Hall, Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, in Bowling Green.

Government’s choices take away individual liberties, so beware of government’s choices. That was the message U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, a Republican from Bowling Green, brought Monday to economics and political science students at Western Kentucky University. “For every ounce of government, you give up an ounce of liberty,” said Paul, who replaced longtime Kentucky U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning. The ophthalmologist said government is not “inherently stupid” but “it does send the wrong signals.”
