Poll: Obama, Democrats Get More Credit Than GOP For Dodging Shutdown

More people are crediting President Obama and congressional Democrats for avoiding the partial shutdown of the federal government than they do Republicans, according to a new CNN/Opinion Research poll.

The survey done over the weekend found 48 percent saying Obama and Democrats deserved more of the credit for resolving the impasse while 35 percent gave Republicans the greater share of the credit.

Meanwhile, when asked whose actions they approved or disapproved of in the shutdown showdown, 54 percent said they approved of Obama's while both the Republican and Democratic leaders tied at 44 percent.

While that's good news for Obama, his overall approval rating was 48 percent, somewhat lower than the 55 percent in late January. The +/- on the poll is 3.5 percentage points. Copyright 2011 National Public Radio. To see more, visit http://www.npr.org/.
