The new leader of the state's flagship university says he wants to meet with as many people, in as many departments, as quickly as possible. As Alan Lytle reports, the school's administration is doing its best to make that happen. New University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto continues to make the rounds getting to know the school's students, faculty, and staff.
Early Tuesday morning, the new president shared coffee and donuts with the Physical Plant Staff, and at lunch time, more than a hundred members of the campus community took part in a meet and greet outside the student center. The Alabama native says he was delighted by the turnout, but suggested an ulterior motive was at play.
"Well I'm pretty overwhelmed by it, but I think it's the ice cream, not me. It's a warm day and they've got free ice cream. So I think that's it."
Capilouto says he wants to meet with as many people, in as many departments, as quickly as possible.
"The people who keep this campus so inviting oftentimes they are the folks behind the scenes that make things happen. It was a pleasure to meet all of them this morning. And then, the same thing this afternoon; all the people who are on the front lines. It's clear to me that students come first at the University of Kentucky which is one of the reasons I came."
Capilouto will have a few weeks to settle into his office and unpack all of the boxes in Maxwell Place before the start of the Fall Semester on August 24th.
