Lexington Examines Branding Options
Lexington city leaders are examining branding options. This week, Mayoral Senior Advisor Scott Shapiro laid out a "blue horse" logo option. He says there is a proliferation of city-related logos with no standard. "There are things that the city does that you all as council members fund that people of Lexington don't know that the city is responsible for," said Shapiro.
The "blue horse" emblem is currently being used by the Lexington Visitors and Convention Bureau in its marketing program. Council member Julian Beard worries people in other states or countries unfamiliar with central Kentucky might not understand the logo's meaning. "Recognizable for those of us who live in Lexington, but if someone in Seattle Washington will just scratch their head and figure out what's that's all about," questioned Beard.
During Tuesday's Council committee meeting, Vice Mayor Linda Gorton asked if the traditional city seal could be maintained and the blue horse added to a logo. Shapiro says the issue will continue to be studied.
