It's the E-K-U Colonels and the Kansas Jayhawks in the men's NC double A basketball tournament this Friday in St. Louis. Eastern Kentucky University learned who would be its opponent Sunday night.
A selection celebration event was staged at the E-K-U Arts Center. Springfield sophomore Joe Badgett believes this attention can only help draw students to the Richmond campus. "It goes to show you that a little small town like us, we can go a long way, especially with everything we do, sports, academics and everything. So, yeah I think it's great marketing," said Badgett.
Both teams come into the Friday contest at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis with 24 and nine records. Eastern is a 15 seed and Kansas a two.
The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team faces another team of “Wildcats” when they kick off N-C-Double-A Tournament play on Friday. The eighth-seeded CATS take on the ninth-seeded Kansas State Wildcats in the second round of the tourney, Friday evening at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Tip off is scheduled for approximately 9:40 p-m and will be televised live on CBS.
The winner of the UK-KSU matchup will play the winner of Number 1-seeded Wichita State and the winner of the 16-seed First Round play-in game between Cal Poly and Texas Southern.
Kentucky is 8-and-0 all-time against Kansas State.
