Kentucky Audit Highly Critical of State Department of Emergency Management
Governor Beshear is reacting to state audit findings today which are highly critical of the Kentucky Department of Emergency Management. The Lexington Herald Leader reports the audit shows more than five million dollars were spent on alcohol, entertainment, hotels and other items. The document also states agency workers were told to stay quiet about it.
In a statement, Governor Beshear says ‘it is clear in some cases, the agency failed to properly account for some of its activities and costs. It goes on to say the Auditor’s recommendations to improve transparency and accountability should be implemented quickly. The governor also had positive comments for how the Department of Emergency Management has responded to eleven federally declared disasters over the past five years.
