K-U Power Crews Return Home from Ice Storm

Over a hundred contract workers with Kentucky Utilities spent much of the Christmas holiday in Michigan, assisting with power restoration. K-U’s Cliff Feltham says icy power lines north of Kentucky are somewhat rare.

“Usually the ice storms occur down south or us or on us so it’s an indication that winter weather is gonna be here for a while and it’s gonna affect everybody from the south to the north this year,” said Feltham.

Feltham says contract crews tend to stay within one day’s drive of Kentucky.  For that reason, he says crews from the Commonwealth are not likely to go as far as Maine in offering assistance.

“If there’s something that hits Kentucky or a portion of Kentucky, where those crews probably should be here and restoring our own customers, we run that risk of having them out there two days away with two days travel back to get to us,” added Feltham.

Power has been restored to many Maine residents, but they are bracing now for a new snow storm.Over a hundred contract workers with Kentucky Utilities spent much of the Christmas holiday in Michigan, assisting with power restoration.
