Jon Stewart 'Defends' Mainstream Media Against Fox News, Sort Of

Comedian Jon Stewart continued his tour of Fox News Channel shows, visiting with host Chris Wallace's Sunday as he has with Bill O'Reilly before.

A highlight: Stewart's response to Wallace who asked the Comedy Central star why he didn't think other major news outlets like ABC News and the New York Times were as ideologically biased as Stewart insisted Fox News was.

"The bias of the mainstream media is towards sensationalism, conflict and laziness," said Stewart as he spelled out what, at least to his mind, differentiated other major news outlets from Fox News, an operation Stewart has repeatedly targeted in his comedy as on an ideological mission.

When the best a defender can muster is that yes, you're defined by "sensationalism, conflict and laziness" but not partisan ideology, something's arguably gone haywire.

Another good moment: When Stewart said point blank to Wallace "You're insane."

It was all very civil and fun and visual proof that people can disagree without being disagreeable.
