Many Republicans in Kentucky believe the November election could be a turning point for them. All year, GOP leaders have expressed confidence they can gain control of the Kentucky House of Representatives for the first time in 91 years and be in a much stronger position to pass conservative legislation such as laws against abortion. The GOP platform released last month calls for reforming the tax code, supporting coal, changing the state legislative pension program and cutting Medicaid spending. It did not include many specifics.
