Far fewer fatalities occurred in Kentucky over this year's Thanksgiving period, according to state police. Two people died in two crashes this year compared to nine highway fatalities during the same time period last year, according to preliminary statistics released by Kentucky State Police. The Thanksgiving holiday period ran from 6 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 23) to 11:59 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 27). Neither of the two people killed this year was wearing a seat belt. The crashes occurred in Fayette and Mercer counties.
