Failure to Pay Taxes Costs Somerset Man
A longtime Somerset attorney has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for not paying more than $368,000 in income and employment taxes over 15 years, according to court documents. Charles John Francis McEnroe is to report to prison by Feb. 1, said his attorney, Scott T. Foster.
McEnroe willfully tried to evade paying his taxes, in part by removing assets from his name and paying bills with cash and money orders, according to his plea agreement.
He made only minimal payments despite repeated attempts by the Internal Revenue Service, courts records say.
McEnroe, who has surrendered his law license, must make restitution to the federal government.
U.S. District Judge Gregory F. Van Tatenhove sentenced McEnroe on Wednesday.
