New video display boards at Eastern Kentucky University football, basketball, and volleyball games could catch the eye of potential recruits.  Plus, the LED video displays will also enhance university functions such as graduation ceremonies.  EKU Athletics Director Mark Sandy says it’s a first for Richmond’s Alumni Coliseum.

“And it’s really gonna help with recruiting. It’s gonna make that building seem so much newer.  It’s actually a building, Alumni Coliseum, that’s held up for the number of years that it’s been in existence, but it does need an upgrade in several areas, and this is the first,” said Sandy.

Sandy believes this new technology can help put more people in the seats.  He says they’ll be funded with corporate support, and with revenue from games with some of the nation’s tougher, better known teams.

“We’re going to pay for it with game guarantees, we’re gonna play some extra games in football.  For example, next year, instead of just playing the University of Florida, we’re also gonna play Miami of Ohio,” added Sandy.

Their purchase comes just weeks after $19 million dollars in spending cuts at the Eastern campus that left almost 200 people without jobs.

The first opportunity to experience the new video display is August 29th when Eastern’s football team hosts Robert Morris.
