E-K-U Coaches Say Team's Personality is Evident
Good sound comradery can go a long way to help achieve success on the basketball court. Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball coach Jeff Neubauer says it’s one of the strengths of this year’s squad.
“We spend so much time together on planes and buses and hotels and film room. It’s a never ending process. And if you’re gonna be around people for that many hours in your life, you want it to be a group that you get along with. So, you know our guys are great to be around, fun people, great personalities,” said Neubauer.
Eastern has been picked preseason to win the Eastern Division of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Colonels return four out of five starters from a team that won a record 25 games last year. Still, Neubauer says, another foe in the division is known for its defensive prowess.
“But, we’ve made it very clear to our team that to win the OVC, to go to the NC double A tournament, we need to be the best defensive team. So, there’s a long way to go. Obviously Belmont is way ahead of everyone as far as that goes. But, we do have an opportunity to be that team, this year,” added Neubauer.
Eastern’s women’s team has been tapped to finish third in the East. Coach Chrissy Roberts knows she has a young team, but also one which, she says, is ready to go.
“Just our energy and our enthusiasm. I’ve got a team full of personalities. We’ve put working extremely hard. They’re just good people,” said Roberts.
Both the men’s and women’s teams open on November eighth. The men take on Florida International away and the Lady Colonels play Miami of Ohio.
