Officials from the FBI and Department of Justice this morning announced the sentencing of three Jackson residents involved in a vote buying scandal. The vote buying conspiracy was at work during the May 2010 Primary Elections in Breathitt County. State and federal officials says Michael Salyers spent hundreds of dollars on votes. Salyers was running for Brethitt County Magistrate. Last May, Salyers was sentenced to sixty days in Jail last May for the conspiracy.
Three more conspirators were sentenced this week. 61-year old Naomi Johnson and 44-year old Earl Young, also of Breathitt County, were sentenced to four months in prison for conspiring to buy votes and vote buying. A third conspirator, 62 year old Jackie Jennings, was sentenced for two months in prison for the same charges.
