The Baseball Project: A Rock 'n' Roll Home Run

The night before The Baseball Project came to visit us at KEXP, I dug through some boxes in my basement and found my old, worn Minnesota Twins foam finger.

I knew it would be appreciated by this all-star band of rock veterans: Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, Minus 5), Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate, Steve Wynn & The Miracle 3), Peter Buck (R.E.M., The Minus 5), and Linda Pitmon (ZuZu's Petals, Steve Wynn & The Miracle 3). That's one winning line-up.

The Baseball Project was born from their mutual love for the game, but you don't have to be a sports fan to appreciate their joyful, melodic songs. McCaughey and Wynn are both clearly so passionate about baseball and music that it was a thrill to be in the dugout for this fun, energetic performance. Wynn even attempted an impromptu song about Chuck Knoblauch at my request.

Next time they visit the station, I hope to be waving a "Baseball Project" pennant in their honor. Copyright 2011 KEXP-FM. To see more, visit http://www.kexp.org/.
