On this week's edition of Kentucky Tonight, host Bill Goodman will welcome candidates from the 2nd & 5th Congressional Districts.  The program that airs "live" on Kentucky Educational Television Monday night at 8:00 will be re-broadcast Tuesday morning at 11:00 on the WEKU Stations.

Since its debut 24 years ago, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” has been Broadway’s longest-running and highest-grossing production ever.  Since 1988, over 12 and a half million people have seen the productions in New York City.  And that number does not include audiences who’ve seen the eight productions on tour around the world. 

Israeli-born Itzhak Perlman is known as one of the preeminent violinists of the 20th and early 21st centuries.  Following a 2011 performance with the University of Kentucky Symphony,  he returns this Sunday to open the orchestra’s 2012-13 season.

The second season at the Eastern Kentucky University Center for the Arts begins next week with a performance by the world-renowned Cincinnati Pops.  On Tuesday, the orchestra, under the leadership of John Morris Russell, presents a show being called “Summon the Heroes," a celebration of America honoring the heroes of 9/11 and our nation’s storied history.

31 bands and individual performers take the stage next week for the first ever Jubilo Music and Arts Festival. John Hingsbergen spoke with the event's director.

Kentucky this week marks a major milestone at one of its historic sites. Over the weekend, the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Richmond was commemorated.  Joining in Kentucky’s Civil War commemoration was Pulitzer prize winning author Mark Neely.   Neely, who spoke last week at Eastern Kentucky University, won the prize in 1991 for his history, The Fate of Liberty: Abraham Lincoln and Civil Liberties.  Neely told WEKU’s John Hingsbergen that the US Constitution helped the Union with the war.

This year's fine arts series at the University of Kentucky's Singletary Center begins this weekend with a performer who's not exactly known for his music.   Hugh Laurie is the actor who starred in the TV series “House,”  that wrapped up production earlier this year.

Another option for music lovers this weekend is the season-opener for the Norton Center for the Arts at Centre College.  Alison Krauss and Union Station perform Saturday evening in Danville.

A special program from Kentucky's premier political speech-making event kicks off Kentucky Educational Television's coverage of the fall 2012 election.

At some times today, WEKU 88.9 FM will be off the air or operating at low power. This is a result of some necessary work at the transmission tower at Clay’s Ferry.

UPDATE:  WEKU 88.9 will likely be operating at reduced power or off the air at times on Saturday AFTERNOON.  Our Hazard, Corbin and Pineville transmitters will be unaffected.  This is a result of work that tower owner KET must have done on the transmission tower at Clay's Ferry.

The 7th annual conference of the International Town and Gown Association, took place at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky June 4 though 8, 2012.  On June 6th, a group of about 20 attended  a breakfast session for mayors, university presidents, city managers and other campus and municipal officials.

On this week's edition of Kentucky Tonight, guest host Renee Shaw and guests will discuss state tax reform.  The program, which airs "live" at 8:00 pm Monday evening on Kentucky Educational Television, will be re-broadcast on Tuesday morning at 11:00 on the WEKU station.
