Madisonville Plastics Plant to Close, Layoff 124

Berry Plastics Corp. plans to close the former Rexam Madisonville plant and layoff its 124 employees by Jan. 31. Plant employee Randy Flahardy wasn’t surprised by the announcement. He noticed production has been slow since the company took over Rexam on Sept. 1. “It was almost like they made the decision to shut us down when they bought us,” Flahardy said.

9/11 Sent Hopkins Co. Soldiers to War

Several Hopkins County first responders served in the wars following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Madisonville Patrolman Bob Couchman began a tradition of displaying a flag he had flown in Iraq on Sept. 11 on a pole in front of his house.

Hopkins County first responders will honor those who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a memorial service at the exact time the first plane struck the north World Trade Center Tower a decade ago. Firefighters will ring bells to signify the time the impact occurred.
